VITA program gives free tax preparation | Enquirer Journal

MONROE — Volunteers are available that have been certified through the Internal Revenue Service that will prepare federal and state income tax returns at no cost, according to a report from Union County Government.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less annually, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The VITA program is accepting applications for assistance.

No in person appointments are available at this time. Instead, swing by the drive-thru to pick up an instructional packet or call 704-296-4312 for virtual preparation information.
