LAFAYETTE, LA – The United Way of Acadiana offers free tax preparation services as part of its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The program provides free and reliable assistance with filing federal tax returns to individuals and families with low and middle income.
This year, 12 registration offices across the Acadiana region are taking part. Most locations are by appointment only due to COVID-19 security restrictions. Visit unitedwayofacadiana.org/VITA for information on locations, hours, and dates.
“We are determined to bring resources to the table that will enable families to become more financially stable,” said Carlee Alm-LaBar, CEO of United Way of Acadiana. “We want to provide members of our community with the tools and resources they need to be successful. With VITA, qualified people can access a required service with which they can increase their potential income. This has benefits for the entire community. “
If you had a household income of less than $ 57,000 in 2020, you may be eligible for this free service. You can also qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can mean additional refunds for your family. Be ready to bring your photo ID, original social security card or ITIN, all W2 for 2020 and other tax documents.
Additional resources can be found at MyFreeTaxes.com. There you can learn about alternative free or low-cost filing options that are currently available.
The VITA program is just one way the United Way of Acadiana is helping individuals and families achieve and maintain financial stability. For more information on other programs, visit UnitedWayofAcadiana.org/Earnings.
