QUAD CITIES, Iowa and Ill. (KWQC) – United Way Quad Cities is now accepting appointments for its volunteer tax advisory services.
The United Way and AARP-led voluntary income tax assistance program helps thousands of local individuals and families prepare their income taxes for free each year, United Way Quad Cities said in a news release.
According to the United Way Quad Cities, VITA will be available from February 1st to April 13th at various locations in the Quad Cities.
“Most people won’t think about income taxes for a few months. But low-income families are already counting the days before they can apply, “said Rene Gellerman, President and CEO of United Way. “The free tax preparation program helps Scott and Rock Island Counties maximize their tax refunds, which can help pay for necessities such as food and rent, or provide a much-needed cushion in an emergency.”
United Way Quad Cities says individuals and families who have made up to $ 57,000 in the past year are encouraged to make an appointment or learn more by dialing 563-355-9900 or 2-1-1. The dates are limited and are expected to be assigned quickly.
“What keeps this important ministry going are the hundreds of volunteers and partner organizations that are constantly working on our community,” said Gellerman. “Our IRS-trained volunteer tax advisors, including students from Augustana College, St. Ambrose University, and Western Illinois University, help ensure applicants claim any tax credits they are entitled to. We are grateful to the volunteers and our host partners for helping more people to get and keep more of their hard-earned money, which also contributes to the economic vitality of our community. “
In addition to the scheduled dates, VITA will be offering an option for walk-in services from February 1 to April 9, announced United Way Quad Cities. The preparation of the tax is also possible from February 2nd to April 13th in partnership with AARP by appointment.
United Way Quad Cities said masks are required at all locations and COVID-19 health and safety precautions are in place to prevent the spread of disease.
United Way Quad Cities said applicants can visit www.unitedwayqc.org/vita to find out about the Child Tax Credit (CHC), Income Tax Credit (EITC), and the documents they must bring with them in their tax preparation.
United Way Quad Cities said for more information on VITA and location times, visit their website at www.unitedwayqc.org or dial 563-355-9900 or 2-1-1.
