Trudeau declares tax breaks and necessary COVID assessments at land borders

Ottawa announced a series of measures to help Canadians repay financial assistance received during the pandemic.

According to the Prime Minister, anyone who has accessed the CERB based on gross income rather than net income and meets the eligibility criteria will not have to repay it. This means that ineligible self-employed Canadians who received the benefit are not required to return it.

Additionally, Trudeau said federal COVID-19 grant recipients who earned less than $ 75,000 in the past year will not have to pay interest on their 2020 tax bill until April next year.

Trudeau also said anyone attempting to cross land borders into Canada must have a negative PCR-COVID-19 test within the past 72 hours.

The Prime Minister announced that the measure would take effect on February 15. The move is in line with the measures currently in force for air travel.
