The Elderly Council of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties offers senior citizens in the region free tax preparation via Project SCOUT (Senior Citizen OUTreach).
The SCOUT project provides free tax assistance to seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families, and individuals in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties. The SCOUT project also helps with general tax issues. The SCOUT project was founded in 1968 as an independent non-profit organization. According to a recent press release, they have a corps of volunteers who assist the community with their tax needs during the tax season and are available on a limited basis throughout the year.
Seniors are asked to request assistance by email: email@example.com
In the “subject line” are: full name, place of residence and if 60 years and older. In the “body” write a brief description of what to do with taxes and income levels. If any of the IRS certified volunteers are qualified for the free service, they will reach out to them.
