Tax Relief

The Metropolis of Burien’s Utility Tax Aid Program is increasing to incorporate extra residents and extra companies

The city of Burien announced this week that applications are now being made for the city’s business tax relief program.

The Burien City Council has decided Regulation 782, Extension of discountable supply taxes on water, sewage and cell phones. The regulation also requires that applications be available in multiple languages.

Residents of Burien whose income is less than 50 percent of the Area median income (AMI) can now apply for a discount on the business tax 2021. Discountable utility taxes include: water, sanitation, waste disposal from Recology Cleanscapes, electricity (gas) from Puget Sound Energy, telephone (including cellular), and basic cable television. Discounts will be sent out in February.

The program is now being offered to both direct and indirect billed customers so that community members who pay incidental expenses as part of their rent are also eligible.

Applications are possible until January 15th, 2022.
