The judiciary rejects the meals tax to take away the earnings tax

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said in his coronavirus briefing Monday that he is against any type of state income tax elimination proposal that includes a tax on food.

He said, “I’m not in favor of a food tax because I think it really hurts our people who have a difficult path ahead of them.”

Advocating a compromise on a bill to abolish state income tax, Governor Justice said, “I know this is, without question, the greatest opportunity West Virginia has had in its history.”

He also said his bill “does not violate one group in favor of another group,” a counterpoint that has been argued by critics of the bill.
