The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the country’s largest free tax advice and preparation service. This program provides free tax preparation assistance for everyone, especially those 50 or older and on a low to middle income. AARP membership is not required.
Services are offered on-site at the Escanaba Public Library. Please call the library at 906-789-7323 to register. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions this year, taxpayers will bring the required documents and fill out an admission and interview form.
After reviewing this form with an AARP creator, the taxpayer leaves the area until his tax return is complete, then reviews the prepared tax return and provides the required signatures.
AARP will start collecting taxes in the second week of February. Taxpayers are called to make an appointment. A list of the documents required to prepare a tax return is available in the library.
This is the 17th year AARP Tax-Aide and the Escanaba Public Library have worked together to provide this non-profit service.
AARP Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation in collaboration with the IRS and the Michigan Department of Treasury. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS each year to ensure they are aware of US tax law revisions.
