NORTHERN VIRGINIA (WDVM) – It’s official tax season which can confuse many about how to file taxes or what documents you might need.
If you live in Northern Virginia and have not yet submitted any paperwork, your county may offer free assistance. The city of Alexandria announced that it will offer free tax preparation to qualified residents.
Taxpayers are eligible if their income is less than $ 35,000 for individuals or less than $ 55,000 for families. Community Tax Aid volunteers help with the submission.
Other counties such as Arlington also offer tax preparation with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
Residents who use these services must bring a few things:
• A social security or taxpayer ID for each family member
• Photo ID
• W-2 forms or other tax documents
• receipts or records of expenses;
• If possible, a copy of last year’s tax return
