ROCS, the Rural Office of Community Services, is looking for volunteers to help prepare income tax for the upcoming tax season.
The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides an important service for low and middle income taxpayers. Services are provided to 20 counties in South Central and South Dakota. The main VITA program locations are in Wagner, Lake Andes, Yankton, and Mitchell, and volunteers are welcome at all of these locations.
Becoming a VITA volunteer is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a difference in your community.
Potential volunteers do not need to have prior knowledge of tax preparation. Volunteer tax advisors receive free comprehensive training from experienced tax advisors. Training is available both online and in person to ensure volunteer tax advisors have all the tools they need to successfully support this program. The use of site computers and workstations is made available. The training courses are held in December and January in order to prepare the availability of the VITA services on February 1st.
Voluntary tax advisors should have sufficient IT skills, be detail-oriented and have excellent customer service.
