It was two months before his 100th birthday. Prince Philip served as consort of the British monarch for almost seven decades. In 2014, the Queen of Northern Ireland paid a historic visit where Prince Philip was next to the late Martin McGuiness, whose IRA had murdered his uncle Lord Mountbatten in a previous life. The Russian Embassy in London determined that Philip was the great-great-grandson of Tsar Nicholas I.

For the first time in six years, Northern Ireland police used overnight water cannons after a seventh night of rioting. Young people from both sides of the sectarian divide share glimpses of the decline of the North before 1998 and the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. The riots continued despite a joint plea from rival leaders.

It may seem like a first world problem when compared to citizens of Myanmar resisting the bullets to defy the recent military coup. Still, the ambassador to Britain had to sleep in his car after being ousted by his own military attaché who made headlines. Britain denounces the overthrow, but regrets that under international rules it recognizes states, not governments, and therefore has to accept whoever the junta appoints.
