Tax Preparation

Mercy Housing presents free tax advisory providers

Filing taxes can be a real headache, but we have good news for those of you who live here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

News 25’s Toni Miles shows us a local nonprofit that provides free tax preparation services to those who need it most.

It is often said that nothing in life is free, but that’s just not the case with Mercy Housing and Human Development. The Gulfport nonprofit offers free tax preparation for those who need help filing their 2020 tax returns. Julie Egressy, Executive Director of Mercy Housing and Human Development, said, “If you just get to our mailbox, we’re located at 1135 Ford Street, next to the Mardi Gras Supply Store. Our mailbox is to the left of our door. This is our envelope that we will have in our mailbox. Your name, email address and telephone number are printed on the front. On the back it is important that you fill this out. This signature, which you place here on the back, enables us to take care of your taxes remotely. “

Nobody gets turned away, and by letting Mercy Housing and Human Development’s IRS certified staff prepare your taxes, you can save up to $ 300 and help get back stimulus funds that you never received or received in full. “What’s new this year is the Economic Recovery Credit, which you can get for your Stimulus Check.

And limited help is available for those of you who have struggled with COVID or Hurricane Zeta. Paula Chamberlain of Mercy Housing said, “People who have suffered hurricane damage can apply through our organization and Community Bank, and FHLB Bank will give them up to $ 10,000 for hurricane recovery finance.”
