The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has proposed that companies or organizations running corruption prevention and education programs in the country be granted automatic tax breaks.
MACC (Prevention) Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil said the move should be done as such programs can be quite costly to organize.
As an example, he gave the estimated cost of a MACC TV commercial with local animated characters Upin Ipin was RM1 million.
“It would be good if the government had a clear policy that any company involved in anti-corruption awareness efforts can get tax breaks.
“This means (businesses) don’t have to apply for (the tax break) all the time, and that doesn’t mean businesses need to worry because they know that if they are involved in graft awareness programs, they will get tax breaks later He said during one Interview yesterday at the radio station MACC.fm.
In the MACC Strategic Plan 2021-2025, presented on August 3rd, MACC proposed the creation of a policy to allow tax breaks for any organization that contributes to anti-corruption efforts.
Shamshun Baharin said the tax break incentive would encourage more companies or organizations to work with MACC to run corruption prevention and education programs for the community.
