Keizer University Port St. Lucie Campus Business and Accounting Program students gain valuable experience as they join alumni and other business leaders to help community members prepare for income tax.
Led by Program Director Ann McLaughlin, the team works with the Internal Revenue Service and the St. Lucie County United Way as the campus serves as a VITA (Volunteers in Tax Assistance) location. “I am pleased to serve as the site coordinator for this important effort,” said McLaughlin. “Last year before the pandemic, we filled out about 100 tax returns and we expect to be able to serve many parishioners again this year as the tax extension period ends on May 17, 2021,” added McLaughlin, who is also a student in math, accounting and math teaches more.
The VITA program has been in existence for over 50 years and provides free tax assistance to people who generally earn $ 54,000 or less. VITA locations prepare form 1040 and send it by email. You will prepare returns within the volunteer’s level of training and the scope of the VITA program.
