Volunteers are required to prepare a free tax return for low to middle income individuals and families under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. No prior tax preparation is required; Training courses are offered.

As part of the VITA program, there are a number of options for volunteers:

  • Tax Writer – Prepares basic 1040 tax returns and associated schedules. Tax law questions can also be answered individually.
  • Greeter / Screener – Greets taxpayers to create a welcoming atmosphere and conducts the screening process of all taxpayers before referring them to the tax preparer.
  • Interpreter – Provides bilingual assistance to Spanish speaking clients seeking tax advisory services.

Virtual VITA information events are available to those interested.
