Through Tax Day, April 15th, the Yolo County Children’s Alliance and its partners are virtually hosting a free voluntary income tax benefit.
Every year, the Yolo County Children’s Alliance works with organizations such as Empower Yolo, RISE Inc., and VITA students at UC Davis to obtain training and certification in VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance).
Through VITA, our employees and partners can support underserved communities, especially non-English speaking communities, with tax preparation and registration.
For most of the communities that YCCA and partners serve, English is a second language and tax preparation, and filing can be a challenging and daunting process.
By working with organizations such as Empower Yolo, RISE Inc. and VITA students, we can offer support to individuals in Spanish, Russian and Persian and maintain a network of resources through trustworthy organizations.
“This year will be different. Many families and individuals have found themselves in uncertain circumstances when it comes to filing their taxes, getting refunds or paying taxes from last year,” said Josie Enriquez, program director at Empower Yolo Pretend you’re a non-English native speaker and you are in control of the IRS processes to make sure you get as much money back as possible for your children and family.
“What results from these services will not only benefit the families we serve and the Yolo County’s economy. These services also result in more customer referrals for other resources a person may need, such as: B. Assistance with applying for health insurance or signing up to receive CalFresh, ”explained Enriquez. “Through our partnership with YCCA and with the support of Yolo County, we can help so many more people in these uncertain times.”
Due to the COVID-19 climate, YCCA staff offer virtual tax preparation assistance and limited in-person assistance to those who may not have access to internet or communication technology. Members of the Yolo County Ward who would like to schedule an appointment or need more information can call our West Sacramento Family Resource Center at (916) 572-0560.
In addition to the FRC West Sacramento, Empower Yolo in Woodland, RISE Inc. in Esparto and Winters as well as students in VITA at UC Davis also offer VITA.
