NEW HANOVER COUNTY – New Hanover County’s Senior Resource Center has extended its free tax preparation service through May 10, 2021 in response to the IRS and NC’s extended IRS and NC filing dates through May 17, 2021.
The service provided by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is available to all people of all ages by appointment only. Also, as per the Covid-19 protocols, it is a filing service where people drop off tax documents and other forms at a set time. A certified tax advisor will call back if the documents can be retrieved.
“We’ve already helped 1,600 residents file their 2020 income tax this year, and we’re excited to expand this service to accommodate the new federal and state deadlines,” said Amber Smith, Senior Resource Center Director a publication. “The scheduling system we introduced this year is going well and allows us to continue this important ministry to the community while protecting the public and our volunteers.”
As a partnership between New Hanover County and AmeriCorps Seniors, VITA also operates in the city of Carolina Beach and at the AARP TaxAide location in the New Hanover County Main Library. Both locations will end tax preparation services on April 15, 2021. After that, they are all sent to the New Hanover County’s Senior Resource Center.
Anyone can call 910-798-6416 to schedule an appointment and see where to pick up the required forms.
