“With the tax filing deadline date of April 18 just around the corner, it is important for Illinois taxpayers to know that filing assistance is available,” Illinois Department of Revenue Director David Harris said. “Volunteers at these locations are certified by the IRS and ready to assist qualified individuals in filing their state and federal tax returns accurately and on time.”

IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs offer free help for those who make $58,000 a year or less, those who are 60 or older, those with disabilities, or those with limited English-speaking skills.

AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide Program provides free assistance for taxpayers over age 50 or those with low to moderate income. Membership is not required to receive assistance.

Taxpayers can search for a free tax assistance provider by going online to tax.illinois.gov. Those with questions can call the Illinois Department of Revenue Taxpayer Assistance Division at 800-732-8866. Assistance is also available by visiting the state revenue department office in Springfield from 8:30 am to 5 pm weekdays.
