For the record
Harnett County residents can submit their tax returns free of charge through March 31 at the Harnett County’s Commons Commons Area complex at 309 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington. The Commons Area is the building between the health department and the social welfare department.
This support is available every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through March 31. Individuals must comply with COVID-19 social distancing requirements and wear facial tissue cover while receiving tax assistance.
Tax returns are electronically generated and submitted by Campbell University School of Business volunteers working with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Tax assistance is granted based on availability. No appointments are made. The volunteers fill out most of the standard tax returns, although there are some forms and schedules that they won’t create.
Those wishing to use tax preparation services must have photo ID (and photo ID for the spouse, if applicable), a Social Security Card (or ITIN) for each person on the tax return (including dependents) and all taxpayers’ tax forms.
Free federal tax forms are available on site. No forms were provided for the state of North Carolina this year. For state tax forms, contact the North Carolina Department of the Treasury at 1-877-252-3052 or http://www.dor.state.nc.us.
