ST. LOUIS, MO – March 1-5, 2021 is Missouri and Illinois Storm Preparation Week. During the week, the National Weather Service will work with the emergency management agencies in Missouri and Illinois to provide information on obtaining critical weather information, as well as tornado, lightning, wind and flood safety details.
A large part of the week will be the nationwide tornado drills on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021. This will happen at 10:00 a.m. in both Missouri and Illinois. If you hear the siren that day, it will ask you to review your severe weather plans.
Stormspotters play an important role in tracking the active weather in the United States. For many years the National Weather Service offered regional training courses for storm scouts traveling to many different communities. In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, spotter training courses have gone online for now, says Kevin Deitsch, a meteorologist for alert coordination at the National Weather Service’s St. Louis office.
