Company tax transparency in direction of actuality in EU talks

This spring, the European Union is pushing ahead with comprehensive new rules on tax transparency, which require companies to publicly disclose how and where they pay taxes.

The proposal was heralded by proponents as a victory for corporate transparency and the fight against tax evasion. In the meantime, companies are warning that the plan will create compliance burdens and reveal sensitive company information – such as where they are investing – that will put them at a competitive disadvantage.

“This is an important step in ensuring that the public feels that we have more transparency in the way multinational public companies operate in the European market,” said Pedro.
