Belgium’s cupboard extends short-term tax breaks as a consequence of coronavirus

On May 18, the Belgian Council of Ministers extended the temporary tax breaks from June 30 to September 30 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The extension applies to: 1) the VAT rate reduced by 6 percent for masks and hydroalcoholic gels; 2) the 15% withholding tax reduction in the context of temporary unemployment; 3) the tax reduction of 30 percent for landlords on unrecovered rents for June, July, August and September; 4) the deferral of tax payments without penalties and possible repayment plans; 5) teleworking allowance for the private sector; 6) the additional unemployment benefit for employees; and 7) the …
